Our Story
ACA is a dream that came into reality – a school born from compassion for a mother and for less-privileged children, and grown by the grace of God.
From a Quiet Mission House to a Living School
In 2014, during a holiday visit to Nigeria, the founder visited her mother, a full-time minister living in the Church/Mission House at Challenge, Ibadan. On a walk around the large compound, she noticed how quiet it became during the day when everyone went to work, leaving her elderly mother, then in her nineties, alone.
Out of care for her mother and compassion for children in the community, a simple but powerful idea emerged: to start a day school in the Sunday School classroom – a space only used on Sundays. This would keep the compound busy, give company to her mother, and offer education to local children.
With her mother’s joyful agreement, two teachers from the family who were looking for work were invited to join. Her mother added another room, making two classrooms to begin. The school was advertised among the locals and in Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Iyinlogo, through flyers and personal outreach.
The Dream of the Fish Farm
In 2017, as preparations were underway in the United Kingdom for the founder’s last daughter’s wedding in Nigeria, another divine moment arrived. She had long owned a plot of land, acquired in 1984, but did not yet know what to do with it.
One night, she dreamt that a fish farm had been constructed on that land. It was neatly divided into sections with different types and sizes of fish, all connected by flowing water pipes. The scene was beautiful and full of joy. In the dream, she exclaimed, “So this land is meant for fisheries all these years!”
When she woke up, she prayed over the revelation. The Holy Spirit spoke clearly to her heart: this place was for “The Fishers of Men” – a place where different classes of children of different ages would gather to learn and grow.
From God’s Heart School to Anitan Christian Academy
As the work grew, the school needed to be officially registered. When the authorities checked the name “God’s Heart School”, they found that a similar name already existed. A new name was required.
The school was then registered as Anitan Christian Academy (ACA), to the glory of God. Today, ACA operates in two locations in Ibadan: School 1 at Challenge and School 2, the headquarters, at Sanyo.
Through all these stages, one thing has remained constant: the vision is of God, who released passion of kindness into a willing heart and gave the grace to run with it.
